LED Specifics – Talking about the technology

THIS IS THE THIRD IN A FIVE WEEK SERIES OF BLOG POSTS TALKING ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING AND HIGHEST PROFITS MARGIN DIGITAL DISPLAY PRODUCTS THAT IS AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET TODAY.

User demand is growing month by month and not just in the AV industry. Marketing, brand consultants, print & signage companies are all capitalizing on the demand that exists right now for LED.

LED Specifics – Talking about the technology

“In Avitor we believe LED is on an unstoppable course to replace LCD screens in the commercial display market within the next ten years

This article will assume that the reader understands pixel pitch and the suitability of different LED options for indoor and outdoor use. We all remember in decades past the text LED displays that are still used today for VMS Trailers and the likes but what we really want to look at today is the reason that LED is the future of commercial displays, the fine pixel pitch large format screen for indoor and outdoor use.

As the technology continues to improve from SMD to COB and micro-LED it will be a more reliable and cheaper display option with the ability to create bespoke displays or standard sizes at the drop of a hat. It’s worth reminding ourselves why LED has been on this prolific rise for decades now.

Here are just five things that LED has in it’s arsenal:

  • Wider viewing angle

  • Better colour contrast

  • Higher brightness capability

  • Low heat dissipation

  • Ability to scale a display to any size or shape

Next month Unilumin will release a P2.5 UTileIII Outdoor LED option, the sharpest outdoor pixel pitch available on the market today, the applicability and usage options for LED have grown exponentially in the past 20 years. So how is this possible? Well it comes down to being able to manufacture very fine pixel pitch LED panels in a more reliable and cost effective way.

With SMD one section of the LED module would frame one LED diode (or pixel), with COB this section now generally holds four diodes and micro LED advances this process even further. During the manufacturing stage market leaders like Unilumin can now place numerous pixels in the space where just a few years ago only one would sit on a PCB, and with very little difference to manufacturing cost. The same PCB still runs through the machine and the diodes can withstand the heat and welding process with even more consistency.

Of course this article can only touch on the technology in a very brief way, and there are countless other aspects to learn about the technology when dealing with a client and finding the most suitable solution for their needs.

If you would like to learn more about LED we would be delighted to hear from you, it is an area that holds future growth potential for your business and if you want to learn all the trouble shooting and pitfalls to avoid we in Avitor, with our partners in Unilumin, are at your service when needed.
